Perfect Green Beans

This green bean recipe has been in my little arsenal of recipes for YEARS! They are super easy and literally always perfect, hence the name.  This is the perfect side dish for your weeknight dinner, Sunday dinner or the fanciest of fancy celebrations.  With Thanksgiving coming in just two days, if you are looking for another yummy side dish to add to your table, I got you covered! :)

Ingredients:

1 Tablespoon Butter
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 Small Onion, Finely Diced
2 Cloves of Garlic, Minced
1 Teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
1 Pound Fresh Green Beans, Trimmed {or frozen!}
1 Can Chicken Broth {or veggie!}

{In a large non-stick pan, add your butter and oil and saute the diced onion over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes, or until softened. }

{After the minced onions soften, add the fresh garlic to the pan and cook for about a few seconds more.}

{Add the green beans to the pan and mix thoroughly to coat them with the onion, garlic butter and oil mixture.}

{Season generously with salt and pepper.  Add in some red pepper flakes at this point too, if you like things spicy. :)}

{Add your chicken broth to the pan and reduce the heat to low.}

{Cover the pan and let them simmer in this flavorful broth for about 10-15 minutes. Taste for seasoning, add more salt and pepper as needed.}

{Serve piping hot and ENJOY!}

{There you have it - the PERFECT green beans.  Simple, flavorful, not too firm and definitely not too soft.  These would be wonderful on your Thanksgiving table, for a special occasion dinner or just to have on a weeknight with a piece of fish.}

Friday’s Faves | Life is Good

Happy Friday! I had a very productive week full of some home projects and deep cleaning in preparation for Thanksgiving. Here were some of my favorites of the week:

{I made a fruit smoothie for breakfast everyday this week and have seen such a difference in the way my body feels. I am definitely more hydrated. It’s a nice treat having something sweet and fruity for breakfast. My favorite combination (shown above) is frozen strawberries + frozen blueberries + frozen bananas +  frozen pineapple + almond milk. So so good!}

{I am absolutely LOVING my new bar cart! It fits perfectly in the corner of my dining room! I am so excited to style it even more. This is gonna make things much more fancier this holiday season. Buy it here {on sale}.}

{I updated my gallery wall and switched out the black frames for white and I am so happy with how it turned out.  These are the Ribba frames, which fit an 8x10 picture. They’re perfect.}

{I’ve mentioned it before and can’t say enough how much I love this Marc Jacobs corally-red Lipstick in the color Je T'Aime ! When I don’t feel like putting much makeup on, all I have to do swipe this on and I instantly feel put together. It’s such a happy shade.

{I wore these sunnies every day this week. They are so comfortable and the quality is BOMB for such a great price. Buy them here!}

Wear It Wednesday: Winter White Vibes

{Cream Wide Leg Flowy Pants ~ Zara (buy  here!) / Cream Mock Neck Sweater ~ Express / Yellow Sleeveless Cardigan ~ SHEIN / Brown Suede Booties ~ Franco Sarto / Leopard Scarf ~ Asos (buy  here! / Designer Dupe Sunnies ~ SO GOOD! buy  here! / Cream Beret ~ buy  here!)

Wear it Wednesday is back with a classy winter white outfit for some fall fashion inspiration. If you have a pair of white pants that you are reluctant to wear because they are "not in season"... WEAR THEM! Gone are the days where those old fashion rules matter to me.  I will absolutely wear white after Labor Day and I did just that this past weekend and felt amazing in this outfit. I decided to add a pop of color using this bright yellow long vest to break this monochrome look up a bit.

I definitely had to wear black tights underneath - these pants are super thin and it was freezing when I wore them.  The extra layer provided the warmth I needed.  And of course my cozy leopard scarf was the perfect accessory - I am so obsessed with the nude-ish color of this leopard print. It goes with EVERYTHING! :)

Friday's Faves | Put Your Positive Pants On

Happy Friday and cheers to the weekend! This has been a very busy week! I had a work event on Wednesday so I feel like the beginning of week was spent gearing up to the event and the end of the week was spent winding down from the event. And it's not that it was a super difficult event - but you know how it is leading up to something that is outside of your normal routine. It can be nerve racking!

Anyway, glad to have made it to Friday! :) This weekend will be spent preparing my house for Thanksgiving - I want to do a living room refresh and incorporate different accent colors.  I also ordered a new bar cart that I can't wait to style in my dining room! All exciting stuff, I will be sure to share the updates here on the blog.

Here are my five faves of the week:

{Rocking all of the prints today and I loving it!}

Outfit Details:
Striped Blazer ~ Zara { Exact dupe here!}
Turtleneck ~ H&M { Buy it here!}
Scarf ~ ASOS - { Buy it here!}
Black High Waisted Jeggings ~ American Eagle Outfitters { Buy them here!}
Snakeprint Mules ~ J. Crew - MY FAVE!! { Buy them here!}

{I spent the day in NYC on Saturday with my sisters and we had a great day of shopping, eating, drinking and simply enjoying each other's company.  It was a great {cold!} day.  We warmed up with a hot drink from Starbucks and of course I had to document the moment of cheers-ing the new Starbucks winter cups.}

{I found some really cute things in NYC that I am excited about.  I passed on these adorable Kate Spade fur mules though.  I am a sucker for a cute mule and these definitely caught my eye.  I decided against them though – they were too bedroom slipper-esque for my liking.}

{Wearing sneakers to NYC was a great idea and  these Nike Air Max 1 were a super cute choice! :)}

{Speaking of sneakers - I also tried these bright 97s on... I may have to back and cop them - they are kiiiiinda cute!}

Easy Smothered Baked Turkey Wings

With Thanksgiving being just TWO weeks away, I am super excited to bring you this amazingly simple and 1000% delicious turkey wing recipe.  These could absolutely be the STAR of the show for your Thanksgiving dinner.  And as a bonus, they are obviously SO much easier than cooking a whole turkey. Turkey wings have been a Sunday dinner staple of mine for a really long time.  They are so easy to cook, ridiculously flavorful and are absolutely perfect for a special occasion, holiday or just a nice dinner with your family. This is a no-fuss recipe – you literally put them in the oven and let them do their thing.  Another bonus: the delightful aroma of these cooking will engulf your entire home. :)

It is worth noting that my 16 year old {my toughest food critic, if you don't already know) absolutely devoured them - after claiming that she "doesn't like turkey wings". Her exact words after dinner were "I LOVED them. I actually DO like turkey wings." So even if you are not a HUGE turkey fan, I think you would love this recipe.

To her defense, all turkey wings aren't created equal. They are very easy to dry out in the oven - which is why I braise mine in a rich and creamy gravy that isn't too thick or thin...yet just glosses and smothers the turkey wings quite beautifully.  Another important step is to baste them at the end as they finish roasting ... this will ensure that they stay nice and moist.

The absolute key to this recipe is the level of seasonings for the rub.  These are seasoned to perfection so although, the seasoning MAY look heavy to some - please trust that these will be out of this world flavorful. :)

Ingredients:

12-15 Small Fresh Turkey Wings
2 Tablespoons Lawry's Seasoned Salt
2 Tablespoons Granulated Onion {Onion Powder}
2 Tablespoons Granulated Garlic {Garlic Powder}
2 Tablespoons Lemon Pepper
2 Tablespoons Poultry Seasoning
2 Tablespoons Paprika
1 Tablespoon Black Pepper
2 Medium Onions, Sliced
1 Can or {1 and 1/2 cup} Chicken Broth
1/2 Cup Water + 2 Tablespoons Cornstarch {to thicken}

{This is a VERY simple recipe - here is the lineup of everything you will need. While you gather your seasonings, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.}

{Add your cleaned and patted dry FRESH turkey wings to a large bowl.  Sprinkle all your seasonings on and mix with your hands to evenly coat and rub the seasonings into each turkey wing. Make sure each one is evenly coated.

{Arrange the seasoned turkey wings on the sliced onion in a large roasting pan in ONE layer.}

{Pour the chicken broth in the BOTTOM of the pan.  Do not pour directly on the turkey wings, you want the seasoning to stay on the wings.}

{In a bowl or measuring cup, mix the cornstarch with the water and pour that in the BOTTOM of the pan, just as you did with the chicken broth.}

{Give the pan a good shake to evenly mix and distribute both the cornstarch mixture and the chicken broth in the bottom of the pan.}

{Cover and seal tightly with foil and roast in a hot 350 degree oven for 2 hours.}

{After 2 hours, remove the foil and baste the turkey wings with the luscious juices at the bottom of the pan. Return to the oven and increase the temperature to 375.}

{Continue cooking, uncovered, for 30-45 minutes more, basting a few times more until the turkey wings are perfectly golden brown.}

{The skin will be cripsy and perfectly golden brown, the meat will be tender and falling of the bone and every single bite will be perfectly seasoned. This isn't a super thick gravy - but it beautifully  coats each piece.  I can't say enough about this recipe, you will just have to see for yourself!}

{Serve them piping hot over rice for an out-of-this world comforting eating experience and prepare to lick your plate clean. LOL! }

Friday's Faves | Eat Play Love

Happy Friday! This has been a whirlwind of a week and as I reflect, I am extremely grateful that I had a lot of energy {that extra hour was much needed!} and was able to wake up, prepare my breakfast and lunch everyday to have something nutritious to put into my body. It's always good to acknowledge the things that we sometimes take for granted.

Have a fantastical weekend and week, see you next Friday!

Here are my Five Faves on Friday:

{Whenever I am struggling in my closet in the morning and can't find anything to wear, I simply grab all black! I feel like you can't go wrong with an all black outfit.  I grabbed some black trousers, a black turtleneck,  threw on a necklace, some booties, a jacket and called it a day! }

{I couldn't wait to pull  these suede boots out this year and I loved wearing them with a pair of cropped summer jeans. That's a great way to transition your summer pieces - just add a cute bootie! I need to revisit some of my summer dresses by adding tights and booties{note to self!}.

{I had this salad for lunch twice this week, and once for dinner.  It was so tasty and flavorful.  It was simply coleslaw mix, chopped bell pepper, green onions, chopped rotisserie chicken, cashews, a few wonton strips and my homemade sesame peanut dressing! Recipe post coming soon! :}

{I love pulling out all the stops for Football Sunday for hubby by putting together an epic snack plate.  He was very happy to see me coming with this plate of goodies!}

{I loved having an impromptu date night.  His and hers drinks above - gin for me, red for him. :)}
