Stovetop Barbecue Cheese Popcorn

August 18, 2015

You guys, I have been addicted to this popcorn for a reallllllly long time. LOL! It has every quality that is delicious in a good snack: sweet, salty, savory, crunchy, cheesy...I mean seriously! What is not to love about that combination? It's super easy to whip up; I can have a nice hot bowl of this popcorn in my lap on the comfy couch watching TV in about 10 minutes.  Now that I have typed that out – that is quite dangerous. LOL! My husband and I prefer to pop our own popcorn, versus eating the greasy microwave stuff, using the stovetop method and it comes it so good every single time.  I suppose you could use the microwave popcorn or an air popper to make it, then season accordingly, but there is something about freshly popped, steamy popcorn from a big pot on the stove.  It comes out crispier and the kernels pop up larger, in my experience.  I also stray from the popping directions on the package – which instructs to heat the oil, add a few kernels, wait and then add the remaining kernels.  I add the oil and kernels at the same time – and it still comes out perfect.  :)  Now that I got the popcorn logistics out of the way, here's how you make this dangerously delicious popcorn!

Ingredients (Makes About 8 Cups of Popcorn):

2 Heaping Tablespoons of McCormick's Grill Mates Barbecue Seasoning
3 Heaping Tablespoons of {Fresh!} Grated Parmesan Cheese
2 Heaping Tablespoons Brown Sugar
1 Heaping Tablespoon Onion Powder
1 Teaspoon Salt
3 Tablespoons Canola Oil {or any other high smoke point oil}
1/3 Cup High Quality Popcorn Kernels
3 Heaping Tablespoons Melted Butter

{In a small bowl, add your spices and the cheese – mix well to combine and set aside.  You could double or triple this mixture and store it in an air-tight container for future use!}

{Heat a large 3 quart saucepan over medium heat for 2 minutes, until hot. Add in your oil and popcorn kernels. Cover the pot with a lid.  Once you hear the kernels begin to pop, gently shake the pot until the popping stops. Simple!}

{Remove the lid and take the pot away from the heat to release the steam.}

{Quickly add your hot popped popcorn to really large bowl and drizzle on your melted butter.}

{Add your barbecue seasoning mix.  This will smell so deliciously amazing once the cheesy seasoning hits the hot popcorn.}

{Gently toss the popcorn so that the butter and barbecue cheese seasoning coats every single kernel.}

{Serve warm and watch every cheesy, sweet, savory, salty, crunchy kernel disappear.  And then an hour later try and keep from making another bowl. It WILL be hard. LOL! :)}

I promise you I will be making a bowl of this tonight.  I can't help it – it's so addicting!

Let me know if you try this one, you will LOVE it!

You can't get any more basic than a white button front shirt and a pair of pants.  Clearly the star of this show is these adorable sandals from Shoedazzle.  I have been living in them, especially during the week for work – they go with everything! I hope you are having a great summer.  Mine has been laid-back and relaxing, which is always nice.  I am looking forward to our Myrtle Beach vacation in two weeks.  It will be the perfect summer send-off before things get crazy and school starts.  I have one going into 10th grade and one going into 7th.  How is that even possible!?!? LOL! Dear time, please slow down!
