{my version of} Beef Stroganoff

March 9, 2012

This is a late recipe post, I actually created this dish a couple of Mondays ago.  I was hesitant to post this super simple dish, but that's just the beauty of it.  It's simple, tasty and only took about 30 minutes to make. :)

{What you will need!}

{Start with cooking your ground beef in a large skillet {ground turkey would also work!}.  Just when it is almost brown, add 1/2 a packet of onion soup mix.}

{Once the beef is browned completely, remove it and drain the excess oil.}

{Now on to the onion gravy.  Over medium low heat, start to sautee 1/2 cup chopped onion in 3-4 tablespoons of butter.}

{Season with salt and continue to brown.}

{Let the onions cook for 5-7 minutes more.}

{To your onion and butter, add about 6 tablespoons of flour.  Mix well with a whisk to combine and create a paste with the flour and the moisture from the butter.  Let that cook for about a minute or so.  If it's too dry, add a pat more of butter. :)}

{Slowly start to whisk in 2 cans of beef broth.  As it bubbles, whisk rigorously to prevent any lumps from forming.}

{Whisk, whisk, whisk until it is lump-free and smooth.}

{Reduce the heat to low and add salt and pepper to taste and about 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary.}

{As your gravy is simmering, cook up a bag of egg noodles.}

{Add your seasoned beef back to the skillet of onion gravy.}

{Add 2 cups of frozen peas and sprinkle in a bit more of the onion soup mix, to taste.  Make sure your mixture is nice and flavorful - but not salty.}

{Let this simmer for 5 minutes or so, to warm the peas.}

{Serve over the warm egg noodles and ENJOY}

I sprinkled on a bit of hot sauce on mine.  YUM!  It was absolutely delicious and everyone loved this dish - we had NO leftovers.  I love when that happens! :)
