Strawberry Shortcakes

April 5, 2011

One of the best things about the weekend is cooking Sunday dinner for my family.  I am a foodie in every sense of the word, so searching for recipes, planning the menu, making the shopping list, getting the ingredients and creating deliciousness makes me happy.

Last Sunday, Isis and I decided to make Strawberry Shortcakes for dessert.

{Bisquick pancake and baking mix ~ such an amazing base ingredient for many delicious recipes.}

To the mix, we added sugar, melted butter and milk.  I let Isis measure everything and mix until a dough formed.  I then divided the dough into mounds for the shortcakes.}

{Isis also used a plastic knife to remove the strawberry stems and slice them in half.  We sprinkled them with sugar, added a touch of water to make a syrup and let them sit in the fridge while the shortcakes baked.}

{Homemade whipped cream was a must.  Into a metal mixing bowl went 8 ounces of heavy whipping cream with a touch of sugar for sweetness.}

{Whipping the cream.}

 {Almost there.}

{Isis is always amazed at how whipped cream is created.  It's like magic!}

{Golden brown shortcakes.  And maybe a little too brown since I added more melted butter than the recipe called for.  Ooops! ;)}

{Yum Yum! The easiest, most delicious dessert that has been requested again this Sunday. Maybe this time we'll make berry shortcakes with raspberries and blueberries and strawberries.  Can't wait!}

Do you have a favorite dessert to make?  I am all ears! :)

xoxo, thanks for reading!
